WOW......
I cant believe a ten year old thread has been reopened so many times.
I didn't even know DF was around in 2003.
maybe this should be moved to the WTF thread.

Anyway, DeRo
There are several things to check
First type "ABS light" in the search box, but put it in quotes like I did. This will bring up tons of threads on this subject.

In short order the most common causes.

Speed sensor on Rear diff, (don't use aftermarket sensors)
brake line from front to back (inside frame rail above gas tank)
front ABS sensors (if you have 4 wheel ABS)

There are a couple more but these are the first ones to check.
Welcome to DF

I just noticed you have a 3rd Gen too.
You should try checking with those guys I think there is a key trick to read Chassis codes which includes ABS

Before I drive my 98 1500 4X4 to a garage do I risk losing brakes? Had all the lines changed 6 months ago and haven't driven the truck regularly. Brake and ABS light stay on; pedal a bit soft but firms up when pumped. I had a complete failure when the lines when out on me simultaneously so I'm a bit gun shy to take a chance with them now. Thanks for any advice.

Still have some air in the lines, and the rears are out of adjustment. Either will give the ABS system fits.

Rebleed the entire system, and adjust up your back brakes.

Hey everyone new here to the forum I have a 2001 1500 with a 5.9 with rear wheel abs I read a couple other threads about this problem but I'm not sure if anyone has actually posted a fix. See my problem is abs and brake light are always on and I have a squishy pedal, I've replaced the sensor in the rear end and my master cylinder and bleed brakes and still have the same problem someone said something about my rwal module could be bad so today I went out and pulled the cap off the valve and have fluid coming out when I push the pedal is this bad??? I'm assuming this is where I'm getting my air from and this is causing my back brakes not to work correct? If someone could help me out I'd be very happy! It's a little sketchy putting a 20 foot ski boat in the water with not all my brakes!

My 96 Dodge 1500 Club-cab 2 wheel drive 318 ci engine has both the ABS and brake lights on all the time.

The brakes operate fine. I have checked fuse #14 and replaced the rear end sensor. The lights still remain. I do not have speed sensors on my front hubs. Brake fluid is fine and good pads on the front.

No codes provided. I have tried unplugging the negative cable at the battery but still no luck.

Any suggestions?
