Default Question of the Week: Add the Durango SRT or stick with the Jeep?

We have been talking about the possibilities of a Durango SRT8 for years now but does the company need to make one or should those Mopar lovers who want a high performance SUV just buy the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8?

I could see SRT doing a Durango SRT. the jeep SRT is the best seller of the SRt's...why not ride that to a few Durango sales? The drivetrain, suspesnion etc. can just switch over.....so why not? But I also know what was said above by Sergio. Allpar is claiming there have been talks of development....but no internal documents show that development.

Why not?
The key is not making them the same. They really need to be different to sell well, I think.

Eh. IMO, they SRT everything and put a crazy pricetag on it. Trouble is, alot of the things are not significantly different. I do like the idea of a Durango SRT as Ive seem some pretty cherry rides cruising around so I can see the potential, but if the same offer is being put against the same offering...whats the difference?

A few years ago, someone at a big local car event near Detroit showed me a cell phone picture of a silver 3rd gen durango with the 6.4L Hemi under the hood. This was around the time where the 392 was just reaching production so there was no way that it was a custom build. I questioned a Chrysler rep about it at an event and I was pulled aside and asked what I knew and who showed it to me. I told them that it was from a company employee but as a member of the media, i wasnt about to narc and cost someone a job. They shrugged it off as "we put lots of engines in lots of vehicles that we know will never see production".

Seems like they've always held back on the Durango/Dakotas anyway. Can't see that changing anytime soon.

Ya why not! Since jeeps look less like jeeps every year all they have to do is switch the grille and emblems of the srt jeep and youll have yourself a srt durango.
