automatic transmission swap
i've got a 04 neon sxt with a slipping transmission. found a used 05 neon (same engine size etc.) transmission with warranty but no one seems to be able to assure me if it will fit/work. called the dealer with both vin #'s but was told the part #'s are different so.... hopeing some here can help me out.

so even though the dealer gave me 2 different part #'s 511530AA (my 04 neon) & 5145312AA (05 neon) it's still safe to purchase. sorry if the question seems repetitive but there's a several hundred bucks & a lot of time to be invested, so i'd like to be sure i've got it right because neither of them are easy come by these days. thank you for your help!

If you are worried about it, call the dealer and ask them what transmission is (not the part numbers, the actual model) in a 2004 Neon and then a 2005 Neon. This is how I've always understood the automatic transmission breakdown:
'00-'01 had the 31TH
'02 had the 41TE (I confused the numbering in my previous post)
'03-'05 had the 40TE, though, the 41TE would technically be an "upgrade."
However, Dodge manuals state the '03 had the 41TE and the '04-'05 had the 40TE. Going by their parts manuals, the '04 and '05 were the only '03+ ones to have the same transmission.
