Ram,

The DS1L41 does come standard with the GXX sales code. I hesitate to say all as many readers of the forum are from other countries and not all may have certain options. But the good news is you do and if you elect to get the Mopar remote start it should be able to be installed on your new Ram.

Thanks for the info.

I've actually requested my dealer's rep to have the remothe start installed and he added it to my invoice but as a 'Installed at the dealer' rather than factory. Hopefully that will be the same as if it was 'From Factor.'

I just drop by the service dept at my dealer and spoke with the tech over there...

When installing Remote Start on ANY 2012 Ram 1500 (with power door lock) he will install part # 82212424AB (they change the part # for 2012) and it does include 2 FOBIK and the WIN module.

It is just a mather of having them insert the RKE sales code in the program when installing the REMOTE START.

The good news is that even if you didn't have Remote Unlock (but having power door look with a regular SENTRY KEY) they will change your ignition module for a WIN and 2 FOBs.

For half the price of getting the 2 FOBIKs alone...

Which is precisely why I ordered the Remote Start KIT for my 2010. - I already had the remote start feature but needed 2 addt'l FOBs. When the svc mgr finally understood what I wanted, he commented "what an ingenious idea". The FOBIKs by themselves would have been $190 each + $50 programming charge (total for both) + another $56 for the 2 door/tailgate keys ($526.95 total with tax). The KIT was only $228 (+ tax)

Since I still had to have the 2 addt'l door keys and still got socked with the programming charge, my total drive-out cost going with the KIT was $357. ($170 cheaper than buying just the 2 FOBIKs)

KUDOs to IronHead for the original suggestion!!

Now then, does anyone have any use for the rest of the kit? It's all there but the FOBIKs. (new WIN ignition switch module, new hood latch w/electric interlock, remote start antenna, wiring harness, 10 zip ties, printed instructions & the box it all came in). I'd make someone a hellouva deal on it.

The factory (or dealer-installed) Remote Start Option requires power door locks, no exception.

However, there are some aftermarket remote start kits available. Unfortunately, I do not know what any of their requirements are, but with aftermarket most likely it's whatever you want to hook up or bypass, so that may be your only option.

I'm sure others will chime-in with suggestions...

The posters stating that you must have power door locks are correct.
