A rebuild involves boring the cylinders, new pistons, new rings, polish or regrind crank, new rod bearins, new main bearings, gasket set, head work, valve job.
in total, even if you assemble the engine yourself, the cost of a complete a proper rebuild will definitely exceed the value of the car.

Here is total i get >
dont know if i can vat the head may have to clean by hand! if I can vat 30.00
engine heads and parts vated 35.00
shaved needed 25.00
Kit above 160.00
turn crank 50.00
oil pump 50.00
oil and filter 20.00
antifreeze 20.00
Valves all look good no sign on burn.
I just put new water pump and belt in it because it was overheating so i will prob reuse!
total 390.00 unless u can think of something i forgot.
This is a 1999 dodge sport 3 speed auto sunroof all power

I build a lot of engines and I don't know of one shop that only charges
$50 for regrinding a crank. I'd like to know what shop that is cuz I'll send them every crank I got even with shipping the $50 grind fee would save me quite a bit.
I'm not a big fan of the Neon powder rod, you'd want to have them checked to ensure they are round on the rod bores.
I've never seen a 150,000 mile engine with ZERO ridge.
How about a new timing belt?
How about a valve job?
You'll need to have the cylinderwalls de-glazed/honed. I don't see that in your price structure.

well the crank ground will be 75 instead of 50! but looks like it dosent have a bad bearing. it has a blown head gasket! I think after talking with u about this engine Im going to just replace the gasket and sell it! I didnt relize it had powder coated rods! I did relaced the timing belt when i replaced waterpump! Im guessing i have some bad lifters, because of the noise it was making! I got to find out which one to replace! Damn its ashame this engine isnt worth overhauling because its damn good on gas! Antway thanks for the advice, rmitch
BTW how many mile can a person usually get out on these engine before they break down completely(is there any average)? Im use to getting 200k + out of other 4cyl engine because i keep the oil changed, but this is the second head gasket im having to change is less than 30k miles on this car! How concerned should i be about those rods?

UPDATE >>> Sorry i just found the thread on swapping engines! But i still have some questions! The thread says use 2.0 pcm and wire harness and just do some pin rearranging! they're is very little 2.4 things need for this swap, https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...ake-a-nap.html Since you done this can u tell me if thats correct on all the 2.4l part needed or is there alot more to it than that? if so can u tell me what else i may need? Thanks again rmitchj
