Default How do I reset the "Check Engine" light??

I just bought my wife a 2001 Dodge Intrepid with only 50,000 miles. Whatever had caused the check engine light to come on was fixed by the car dealer I bought the car from, but they claimed they didn't have the equipment to reset the light.

Can I do this or do I need to take it to the Dodgedealer to have it done? Thanks!

u are kidding me right a car dealer does not even have small scanner??? Take off your batt for 1 min that will do it but I bet they did not fix your prob because if they dont have the tools to turn off the light then how did they know what the prob was in the first place???

They "claimed' no codes came up which means it needs reset. I unplugged the negative battery cable for a minute and turned the ignition key a couple times and plugged it back in. Initially it did not come on. When I turned it off and back on again, it came back on.

It's sad that one of the larger well known car dealerships in this area can't get this simple thing right. I'll bet it's an O2 sensor or something. If I find that to be true, I'm going to call them and complain.

That's what I'm going to do tomorrow.

Thanks

Also,

I bought a flasher because the one on there is blinking fast. I cannot figure out how to replace it on this Intrepid. I've done it before on other cars usually in the fuse box. I can't for the life of me figure it out on this one. Sounds like it's above the brakepetal but I cannot locateit. Any info appreciated....

On most but not all Chrysler products
the check engine light will be reset
with 50 on/off cycles of the ignition key.

The trouble code will still be stored in the PCM computer, however, even after the light in the dash goes out.

If theengine light circuitisn't malfunctioning and the light is on, there will be a code in memory. Before you reset it, check the fault in memory and write it down, then either have it reset with a scan tool or disconect the bat (I think it is for 10-15 to reset, I always use my own scan tool). Ensure the code is gone in memory before you restart the car. If so, run the engine. If the light comes back on, verify the code. Go back to the stealer and make them fix it. I've NEVER heard they can't get the light off, if the problem is fixed.

The dealer I bought it from told me to make an appointment with the Dodge dealer. They gave me the name of someone and said they would pay for it. Should be good to go now.

I think I would be taking my car to another dealer and send a letter to the dealer you bought the carfrom, that they just lost a customer and you will be calling chrysler customer service, and let them know the poor service they gave you.

I didn't buy the Intrepid from the Dodge/Chrysler dealer. I bought it from the Chevrolet/Mitsubishi dealer. Anyway, they're paying for me to take it to the Dodge Dealer to have them solve it.
