Ram 2500 Diesel fuel economy
I recently purchased a new 04 Ram 2500 Diesel with an automatic transmission and 410 rearend. The truck now has approx. 7000 miles and is averaging approx. 13.5 mpg. It seems to get this fuel mileage whether I am driving around town and on the highway. Is this the best that I can expect? I have been told that I should be getting somewhere around 19-21.

RE: Ram 2500 Diesel fuel economy
2500 cummins 600, 6spd, 4x4, 4.10 rear end. here is what Ive come up with so far.
75-80. . .~14mpg
70-75. . .~16mpg
65-70. . .~18mpg
60-65. . .~19mpg
anything below 60 on the highways of ATL is a death wish
the cummins engine gets is best economy between 1600 and 2400rpm. remember, your making your torque starting at 1600. another tid bit of info for ya. it kinda runs true as well. for ever mile per hour faster you go. your fuel economy goes down by .1mpg. so every 10 miles per hour faster you go, your economy goes down 1 mpg. however as you can see, the front end of this truck is massive, so as the speeds increase, your just pushing that much more air so wind resistance becomes a factor as well.
edit. . .if you have realy technical questions, hit this site up, these guys are good when is comes to the cummins powered Ram. dieselram.com
